Love this little gem of a provincial park. Located Love this little gem of a provincial park. Located just outside the west gate of Algonquin Park, Oxtongue River - Ragged Falls Provincial Park offers a short little hike to one of Ontario's top waterfalls. I've been visiting this park in every season since 1998 and can attest that the falls in winter are particularly beautiful and soul soothing. In othet seasons, swimming at the top of the falls or paddling the Oxtongue in to the bottom of the falls is equally awesome.
Ever receive a gift that hits you right in the hea Ever receive a gift that hits you right in the heart? ❤️ For me, it's this first edition (1948) book from my brother. He gave it to me this Christmas, the rewards of his efforts scouring antique shops in Colbourne, Ontario. I started reading it on New Years Day while in Algonquin.

The Forest Ranger by Jack Hambleton tells the true stories of rangers in #Algonquin, #Temagami and #northernontario as they worked tirlessly to protect and preserve public land. The public servant and former park warden in me finds companionship and inspiration in the stories and am reminded that the pursuit of something important, even if you fail, makes the world a better place.

One thing I will admit, though, is that this book is a stark reminder that until recent decades, land management was a man's world. Women simply weren't there, not in uniform and not in decision making. We are now, but it's taken a lot of effort (ongoing) to break down the walls of the old boys club.

Eternally grateful to my bro for always being so thoughtful, purposeful, and personal with his gift giving. Love you much.
What a gorgeous sun soaked, winter crisp, blue sky What a gorgeous sun soaked, winter crisp, blue sky hike! We rambled along the Bruce Trail Friendship Trail today and then explored the vast network of trails on adjacent public land. Map or trail app required! Not a trail blaze or navigational sign to be found anywhere.
